The difficulties related to telemarketing can be challenging and should be recognised. Telemarketing requires a lot of hard work, attention and diligence. However, there a few methods which can help you on the way to achieving your goals. In order to help you hone in your telemarketing skills, we have come up with a few tips related to different aspects of telemarketing:

  1. Relax! Positivity Follows Positivity

While making calls all day can be difficult, if you remain positive then you are likely to increase your lead generation ability and see positive results. Although this may sound like very simple advice, it is important that you try not to let any negative responses get you down. Try to see every call as a fresh slate and a new opportunity. This will not only increase your work efficiency but will also make your working day easier.

  1. First Impressions Can Be Last Impressions

For successful telemarketing, you should realise that the first 5 to 30 seconds of your call are crucial, in terms of making an impression on your prospective customer. It is good to have an idea of what you would say to win a prospective customer over after a frosty start. Being prepared is important, since having a solution in case of emergencies builds confidence. Don’t be afraid to ask experienced colleagues for advice!

  1. Prepare for Each Call

One important piece of advice that we have, is preparing yourself for each individual call. Before you press dial, you should ensure that you have both the name of the person you are looking for, and an alternative name if necessary. Check out their website and have it open during the call – check out LinkedIn too (do you have any mutual connections you can make reference to?) Rehearse the key points that you need to get across in your head – writing them down.

  1. Look For Other Opportunities

If you are unsuccessful in reaching the desired contact, remember to search for other opportunities. This could mean asking the gatekeeper when that person will be available, for another contact number or even seeing if there is someone else in the company that can speak to you.

5. Tackling The Gatekeeper

A gatekeeper is a person who answers the phone and directs calls to the necessary people at different companies and businesses. This person is crucial in the telemarketing process as they decide whether to pass your call through or not. Remember that you should always be polite, even when they do not pass you through – you are setting an example of the company you represent. It’s nice to be nice and it will work in your favour.
